FREEDOM

Woman by Lake

Does this sound familiar?

You replay conversations trying to work out what you did wrong.

You check your memory against theirs, and yours keeps losing.

You’ve been told you’re too sensitive so often that you’ve started to agree.

You brace before you open the door.

You can’t remember the last time a decision felt like it was yours.

None of that means something is wrong with you.

It means you've been somewhere that made all of it necessary.

Woman Wearing Headphones

Before you read anything else - listen

These songs, written on the way out to bring strength, grace and peace. If the words land, you’re in the right place.

Smiling Woman Portrait

Five short walks back to yourself...

Not a course. No homework, no catching up, nothing to fall behind on. A few minutes each morning, and people who’ve been where you are walking it alongside you.

Break the Mold — for when you’re still working out what happened.

Keep Your Peace — for holding a boundary without a fight.

Find Your Compass — for when you’ve no idea what you actually want.

Mindfulness — for a body that won’t stop bracing.

Steady Self Growth — twelve weeks, for when you’re ready to build.

Written by someone who got out.

Hope Maris was raised to be useful.

Useful girls were easy. Useful girls were safe. By nine she could read a room through the wall. By thirty-eight she had a husband who decided what she bought, who she was allowed to speak to, and what she was permitted to remember.

She left at five in the morning with her daughter on her hip and no note.

What nobody tells you is that leaving is the middle of the story.

In the years that follow, Hope builds a company out of a spiral notebook, teaches women to stop apologising for needing money, and learns to say no without her voice going. And every time something arrives — a doormat turned three degrees, a blocked number, a porch light that comes on by itself — she writes it down. Date. Time. What she saw.

She does not know yet that the record is the thing that will save her.

A novel about coercive control, quiet courage, and the long unglamorous work of building a life nobody else can enter.
